Jim Zub Tumblr Q&A

Q: Have you ever read Alan Moore's run on Captain Britain? Betsy Braddock really stood out for me.

Jim Zub: I have read the Alan Moore Captain Britain issues (and re-read them recently as part of my X-Men research). Writing Betsy in Mystery In Madripoor is a blast. Can’t wait for you to see what we have planned for her and the rest of the team.

Q: Other than Psylocke, which of the other X-girls have a central role in Mystery in Madripoor?

Zub: Kitty and Domino get the most panel time along with Psylocke. Storm, Rogue, and Jubilee are important, but not as central to the story.

I wish they'd just put her back in her original body already. You'd think in this day and age where everything is PC and their new EIC is basically caught up in a scandal of being a Psylocke lol Posing as a Japanese writer and yet they are making money off a character who is white posing as a Japanese woman.

Fans get so pissy when it's brought up but what's the big deal? It's not as if Psylocke still wouldn't be a ninja if they reverted her body. I was really hoping that Proteus would somehow alter her body in Astonshing but doesn't look like that's happening as she's still Asian on the Madripoor mini covers.

She is supposed to look Asian on this cover? 👀 🤔Even the “mythic” Jim Lee barely drew her as Asian. In his defense though,he was drawing her original body with slight modifications. There was no Kwannon contrivance then.

Not sure I ever said that she looked Asian on the cover, but we know she's supposed to be in the Asian body. My point is, revert the character to her original body even if she's not always drawn to look Asian the story still stands. Marvel constantly reminds the reader that she's inhabiting a Japanese ninja's body lol

You’re preaching to the choir, CmX. Although, now with all the Jean incarnations running around (including 616 Jean, Rachel, Madelyne, “Jeen”), Marvel will probably want psuedo-Asiatic Bets to stay that way lest she be just another telepath/telekinetic.

Though to be honest, I’d totally trade the Kwaanon body for for her to resume her old mantras, “focused totality was of my psychic powers” and “as you wish” if she was just Brian’s fully genetic sister again 😂😂😂

So once again, Storm is being pushed to the background?
I'm tired of seeing Kitty Pride get all of the attention. Jubilee has the potential to be a great, central character.

Honestly I wouldn't be opposed to the British bodies return but I'd also want the Japanese (Kwannon) around. Like when we had Psylocke and Revanche at the same time.

The whole body switch doesn't bother me and is highly relateable to people who feel like they are in the wrong body for example trans and individuals and people who suffer from body dismorphia.

Technically she's not posing as a Japanese woman because she genetically is one now that her mind is in this body. Switching her back will just further complicate the characters already convoluted past.

Body swaps happen in comics all the time are characters only expected to swap bodies with individuals of the same race and gender as themselves?

I wish Domino wasn't part of this comic! She's so annoying and Jean should've had her spot.

Yeah I totaly support the Asian body Psylocke storyline, people should love Betsy for what and who she is , not for in wich body she is, that's so irrelevant, as human beings society needs to learn to surpass these prejudices and accept people for what they are, seeing beyond their bodies, genders, sexual orientation, religion, race, etc ... Humanity needs to progress so much ! Psylocke is a British liberal bisexual mutant in an Asian body, people should just deal with it.

Honestly, as a fan of Betsy, I would prefer her in the british body, with all the power in the high level. But Marvel has priorities, and Psylocke is not one of them, even with all that public aclamation that Olivia Munn provide at the movie.
